Edward R. Clair, age 86, of Monmouth, Ill., passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009, at his residence. Ed was born on January 3, 1923 in Quincy, Ill., the son of Charles and Helen Seiford Clair. He was raised and educated in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School in 1941. Ed served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Service Company 27th Air Bn. On August 23, 1947, Ed married Betty P. Schwigen in Kewanee, Ill. In 1946, he began working as a technician with General Telephone retiring in 1985. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles and most especially his grandchildren. Ed was active in activities at Strom Center in Monmouth. Surviving are two daughters, Linda M. Smith of and Christina (Howard) Garrett both of Monmouth, eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and one sister. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment with military honors will be in the Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. His family will be present to receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A memorial fund is being established for Strom Center in Monmouth.
