Edward "Ed" Rodriquez

Edward C. Rodriquez, age 85, of Cameron, Illinois; passed away on December 7, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital at 1:52 pm. " Ed " was born on October 12, 1927 in Los Angeles, California and is the son of Regino and Josephine Soufflee Rodriguez. Ed was raised in California where he attended public schools through High School. He then attended East L.A. College and then Rio Hondo Colleges. Ed entered service in 1952 and was the rank of Corporal E3 in the Marine Corp during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1954. Ed was married to Martha J. Quick Powell on September 5, 1992 in Monmouth, Illinois. Ed while he was in California was employed as Supervisor of Bunge Foods in Gardena, California where he worked for forty-two years. He later worked in security at Monmouth College and then later also in security for Wells Pet Foods also in Monmouth. He retired in 2003. While in California Ed was a member of Dad's Club at Maizeland Elementary School and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Parent Teachers Association. Ed is survived by his wife, Martha of Cameron, Illinois; one daughter Tina (Dennis) Lacarra of Whittier, CA.; five step sons, Terry (Lupita) Powell of San Diego, CA; Jim (Sharon) Powell and Dennis (Tanya) Powell, both of Kingman, AZ. and Joel Horner in CA, and Josh Horner in Oregon. There are two granddaughters Melissa Lacarra of Huntington Beach, CA; Michelle (Adrian) Vasquez and Great Granddaughter Madeline Vasquez, both of Whittier, CA One grandson survives Stephen Lacarra and great grandson Jacob Vasquez, both of Whittier, CA. Ed has two sisters surviving, Adele (Robert) Tholen of West Point, CA and Theresa Martinez in Mexico. Two brothers Al (Mary) Rod in Compton, CA and Val Rodriquez in Signal Hill, CA. A number of nieces and nephews and other relatives also are surviving. Preceding Ed in his death are his parents, one son, Edward Jr. and brother, Sal. Services:A funeral service will be on Thursday December 13, 2012 at 2:30 pm at the Cameron Christian Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday December 12, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron. Memorial donation are for the military honor guard of the VFW and American Legion.or the Cameron Christian Church.
