Eloise M. Preston, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away on Sunday May 15th, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital at 3:17 am. She was born December 21, 1921 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Leo M. and Turrie V. Guthrie Peoples. Eloise was raised and educated in Monmouth, Illinois where she attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School, class of 1939. She was married to Ellis D. Preston on November 5, 1953 in Monmouth and he passed away on February 13, 1980. Eloise began work during World War II manufacturing and machining parts and supply for Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut She later worked for many years at the Monmouth Pottery as a finisher, which she did until her retirement in 1986. Eloise is a member of St.James AME Church where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed bird watching and reading. She was a member of the Agnes Moody Women's Club and the Jolly Nine Card Club. Eloise was active with the local Democratic Party and was involved in local Democratic Politics. Eloise is survived by one daughter Joann (John A.,Sr.) Elliott of Naperville, Illinois and one grandson John A. (Sophy) Elliott, Jr. of Woodlands, Texas and three great grandchildren Grant, Clark, and Jack. Two sisters survive Marie Clark of Columbus, Ohio and Betty Bruce of Los Angeles. California and one brother James (Barbara) Peoples of East Moline, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six brothers and sisters. Services:A funeral service is planned on Friday May 20th, at 10:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. Her family plans visitation on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the Audubon Society.
