Esther M. Norton

Esther M. Norton, age 73, of Monmouth, Ill. passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at the Monmouth Nursing Home. Esther was born on April 20, 1935 in New Boston, Ill. the daughter of Daniel M. and Ruth McKinley Frye. She attended Aledo schools and graduated from Aledo High School. Esther married Frank W. Norton, Jr., on August 16, 1952 in Aledo. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1998. Esther first worked at Formfit and Smolers in Monmouth. She retired in 2001 from Envision Boats doing upholstery. She was a member of Monmouth VFW Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Monmouth Eagles Aerie where she held various offices in both. She was an avid Cubs fan, watching golf Tiger Woods, playing Bingo and going to the Casino. Her grandchildren were her greatest love. Surviving Esther is three son Ron Norton and Glenda of Mexico, Mo., Michael Norton of Monmouth, Jeffrey Norton and Patty of Alexis, Ill., and daughters Sandy Sage and Tom of Monmouth, Jeana Elliott and Aaron of Albuquerque, New Mexico and one sister Joyce Frees of Rock Island, Ill. and two brothers Daniel Frye and Judith of Galesburg and Virgil Frye and Joyce of Galesburg. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Services:Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Esther's family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's on Monday at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service. A memorial fund is being established.
