Ethel J. Adams, age 90, of Monmouth, Illinois; went peacefully to her heavenly reward with her family at her side, after a brief stay at Cottage Hospital on Friday April 10, 2015. She was the first born daughter of Jess and Ester Kimmitt Scott. She attended Monmouth Schools. In 1939 she married Charles A. Howard in Palmyra, Missouri. In 1949 she was widowed the first time, nine days after the accidental death of her son, Charles Scott Howard. During her years living in Kirkwood, she attended and was active in the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She worked a number of years in the Kirkwood Office of Dr. J.D. Simmons. In 1959, she married David Adams. They made their home in the Atlanta, Georgia area and traveled extensively for his job as a Construction Job Superintendent. After Dave's retirement in the mid 70's they returned to Monmouth and made their home at 33 McEwen Court. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her son, Charles Howard and daughter, Sandra Williams; sisters, Betty Anderson, Edith Miller and Madelyn Nichols, Son-in-law, Don Thurman and daughter-in-law, Barbara Howard; step sons, Clyde Howard, James Herbert Howard, and Douglas Adams, and step daughter Eve Sorensen. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Thurman of Parker, CO; Son, Russell "Rusty" Howard of Kirkwood, and stepson, David Adams of Houston, Texas as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by four step grandchildren. Her family, home, and yard were her greatest joys. In later years she enjoyed an occasional casino outing. Services:A funeral service is planned at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Warren County Memorial Park. A memorial fund is being established for Warren Achievement Residential Program.
