Eugene Fassett, 90, of Biggsville, IL passed away at his home Thursday, September 3, 2009. Born on September 19, 1918 at his family's home near Reynolds, IL, he was the son of George "G.H." & Anna Christie Fassett. He was raised in the Reynolds area and graduated from Reynolds High School. His first marriage was to Barbara Cunningham on January 7, 1942 in Monmouth, IL. They had two children, Bonnie and Warren. He later married Bea Greenstreet and they divorced. Gene was a farmer and raised registered Angus cattle in the Alexis area, and then later in rural Biggsville. In 1946 he was the president of the Illinois Angus Association. In 1954, he had the Grand Champion Steer at the American Royal Livestock Exposition in Kansas City, MO. In the early 1980's, he started Fassett Real Estate Co. where he was a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser. He continued to sell real estate and still bought feeder cattle to put on pasture every summer. He was active in many organizations, including the Lions Club, Henderson County Township Board, Tri-County Cattleman Association, Illinois Angus Association, and the American Angus Association. He attended the Biggsville Methodist Church. Gene enjoyed visiting with people, raising cattle, and working on his farm. He loved driving to Canada to fish for Northern Pike and visit with all of his relatives. His ancestors had homesteaded there. Gene was a very kind hearted man, and will always be remembered for all of his generous deeds and devotion to his family. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Oaks of Carman, a son, Warren Fassett of Kirkwood, a grandson, Dennis Oaks of Rozetta, a granddaughter Brenda (Greg) Close of Reynolds, two great-grandchildren, Nicholas & Barbara Jean Close of Reynolds, a sister, Anna (Neal) Streeter of New Windsor, his sister in law Violet Fassett of Pennsylvaniz. A special friend, Jackie Corbin of Alexis, and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie Dahl & Pearl Daniels, and four brothers, George, Julius, Walter, and Orville Fassett. Services:A funeral service was conducted by Pastor Jeff Robbins on Wednesday September 9, 2009 at 10:30 at the Biggsville United Methodist Church. Organist for the service was Leo Ramer and the Vocalist was W. Dean Clark who sang "How Great Thou Art" and " Take My Hand Precious Lord " Burial was in the Biggsville Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Biggsville Lions Club and Biggsville Methodist Church. Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville is in charge of the arrangements.
