Forrest Eugene Vaughn, age 69, of Monmouth, passed away at 11:10 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. He was born on July 26, 1941 in Bushnell, Ill., he is the son of Forrest Raymond and Anna Irene Hite Vaughn. Gene graduated from Galesburg High School in 1959. He married Penny Gayle Ryan on June 30, 1963 in Stronghurst, Ill., she survives. Gene started working in the printing business with Floyd Seybold in 1960. He eventually owned and operated Seybold Printing in Monmouth and worked there for over 50 years. Gene was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Monmouth, the Monmouth Lodge #61 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, AMOS Beth Addon # 246, and the Moose Lodge. He is a former member of the Monmouth Volunteer Fire Department, Warren County Crime Stoppers, and the Red Cross Disaster Relief Team. Gene enjoyed wood working, making stained glass, knitting and hand work, and gardening. He loved his home and his family. Gene is survived by his wife Penny of Monmouth, two sons; Forrest Raymond Vaughn (Debbie) of Virginia Beach, Va., and Paul Eugene Vaughn (Larise) of Monmouth. Two sisters; Janet Laue (Ron) of Burlington, Ia. and Arla Parkison (Stan) of Webb City, Mo. Two brothers; Robert Effland (Betty) of Mount Carmel, Ill., and David Effland (Genie) of Austin, Tx. Also surviving is one granddaughter Megan Vaughn of Virginia Beach, Va., numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, and two aunts; Betty Powell of St. Augustine, Ill. and LaVon Vaughn of Pawnee City, Ne. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father O.C. Effland, and brother Terry Effland. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Gene's family will be present Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth to receive friends. An Odd Fellows service will be recited at 2:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the 1st United Methodist Church in Monmouth, Holy Family Cardiac Rehab, and Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
