Frances "Beverly" Brooks, age 83, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 11:53 pm on April 28, 2012 at OSF St.Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL. Beverly was born April 18, 1929 in Oskaloosa, Iowa and is the daughter of Fred Brown and Mina Barton Schlaf. The family moved to Monmouth in 1934 where she was raised and educated in local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1947. Beverly married George L. Brooks, Jr. on July 16, 1950 in Monmouth, and he preceded her in death on September 18, 2011. Beverly worked at Illinois Bankers Life, in Monmouth and then at Killey Cleaners, also in Monmouth. She then became a supervisor at Applegate Inn nursing home for a time and lastly was a homemaker for Addus Home Health Care until her retirement. Beverly was a life long member of First Christian Church in Monmouth where she served as a Deaconess, choir member, and nursery worker for many years. She loved animals especially dogs and enjoyed camping with her camping club. Beverly is survived by her son David L. (Jenny) Brooks of LaSalle, Illinois, daughter Carolyn L. Butler of Monmouth, and son Kyle L. Brooks also of Monmouth, Illinois. There are five grandchildren, Austin, Crystal, Kurt, Conchetta, and Renee, and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Fred, Lyle, Warren, and Burke Schlaf, and one great granddaughter, Kirsten Marie Simpson. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Friday May 4, 2012 at First Christian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans to receive friends at the church for the hour prior to the service, 9:30 to 10:30 am Friday. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is established for either First Christian Church Nursery or Strom Center.
