Donald F. “Fred” 91 and Alice L. Bellamy Madvig 92, of Galesburg, Illinois, Fred died Monday, January 6, 2025 and Alice died Wednesday October 15, 2025 both at Knox County Nursing Home.
Fred was born April 5, 1933 in Galesburg, the son of Donald F. and Lillian M. (Summers) Madvig. Alice was born July 3, 1933 in Galesburg, the daughter of Claude C. and Violet I. (Barber) Bellamy. After they graduating from Galesburg High School in 1951, they were married on November 30, 1951 at the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg. Fred and Alice were married 73 years. They are survived by one daughter, Robin (Brad) Collier of Galesburg; two sons, Charles “Chuck” (Peggy) Madvig of Phoenix, Arizona and Donald (Carolyn) Madvig of Bloomington, Indiana; Fred’s brother, Wayne Madvig of Galesburg; five grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters, 10 great grandchildren, one step great grandson, and 4 great great grandchildren. Fred and Alice were preceded in death by their parents, Fred’s brother, and Alice’s three sisters and brother.
Fred worked for 42 years as a quality control specialist at Butler Manufacturing. He enjoyed working with his hands from woodworking, working in the yard, and tinkering around the house, finding a way to repair anything that needed fixed. Alice worked for Hawthorne, and Clark Drug Stores and later as a pharmacy assistant at the Galesburg Clinic. She enjoyed working in their flower gardens, and spending time with her grandchildren. Alice loved watching Perry Mason and listening to Elivis. Fred and Alice spent many years boating on the Mississippi River and enjoyed their winters in Arizona.
Fred and Alice’s family would like to thank Alanna, Amy, and Jenni with OSF Hospice and everyone on wing three at Knox County Nursing Home for their excellent care.
Cremation has been conducted. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. Memorials may be given to OSF Hospice.
