Gary L. Oaks

Gary L."Yogi" Oaks, age 65, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 7:15 pm on May 24th, at OSF St.Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Gary was born on February 3, 1946 in Burlington, Iowa and is the son of Clarence D. and Belva B. Bradfield Oaks. Gary was raised in Biggsville where he attended local schools and graduated from Union High School. Gary was married to Victoria J. Coover on August 14, 1965 in Biggsville, Illinois. Gary has been a semi driver in transportation locally for many years. He began by establishing "Oaks Trucking" in Biggsville which he owned and operated for a time. He has driven semis for various companies in the area and in Burlington, Iowa through out his career. He retired in the year 2009. Gary's hobby was rebuilding and restoring tractors. He more recently operated Yogi's Ice Cream on Route 34 near Biggsville, Illinois. "Yogi" is survived by his wife Vicky (Coover) Oaks of Oquawka, Illinois and two daughters, Becky (Mark) Hays of New London, Iowa and Joni (Tim) Wells of Washington, Iowa. There are three grandchildren surviving, Erin Foster of New London, IA and Jade and Olin Wells both of Washington, IA. Gary has one brother surviving, Dale (Ruth) Oaks of West Burlington, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents, and mother and father in law, one nephew, and several aunts and uncles. Services:A memorial service will be on Saturday June 4th at 3:00pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Cremation has been accorded. His family plans to receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm for an hour prior to the service. The funeral home will be open for calling hours at 10:00 am on Saturday June 4th. Fellowship will follow the memorial service at the Eagles Club in Oquawka, Illinois.
