George M. Brown, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois, and formerly of Eldorado, Illinois; passed away at 3:05 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. George was born on October 23, 1916 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Ellis and Estelle (Kinnick) Brown. He was reared and educated in the St. Mary's, Missouri area. He received his Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University. George served briefly in the U.S. Army as a PFC. He married Dorothy Wolf on May 22, 1937 in St. Marys, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2006. George was a teacher, principal and superintendent at various Illinois Schools. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club and the Masonic Lodge. In earlier years he coached Little League Baseball and Refereed Basketball. George is survived by two daughters Betty McRoberts (James) of Princeton, Indiana and Joella Kieffer (Ronald) of Eldorado, Illinois. Seven sons Dr. Richard E. Brown (Colleen) of Springfield, Illinois; Eugene M. Brown (Penny) of Hillsboro,Oregon; Thomas L. Brown (Barabara) of Coloma, Wisconsin; John E. Brown (Gaye) of Sonoma, California; Kenneth W. Brown (Kathy) of Westminster, Colorado; Robert O. Brown (Marilyn) of Mt.Carmel, Illinois; Donald G. Brown (Wanda) of Monmouth, Illinois. Thirty grandchildren, Forty-Two Great Grandchildren, and Six Great Great grandchildren. Four Sisters Helen Armbruster of Denver, Colorado; Wilma Miller of Dexter, Missouri; Olive DeRouse (Art) of Belleville, Illinois; Audrey Hart (Lee) of Phoenix, Arizona. One Brother Ellis Brown ( Nell ) of Ada, Oklahoma. He preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and one sister. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at Turnbull's. Cremation will be accorded following the service. A memorial fund is being established for either OSF Holy Family Hospice or F-Wing of OSF Holy Family Medical Center.
