George Grant Mackey, Sr. age 70, of Aledo, Illinois; passed away at OSF St.Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois on January 21, 2014 at 1:30 pm. George was born on October 19, 1943 in Cameron, Illinois and is the son of Grant and Ruth Poulson Mackey. He was raised in Dahinda, Illinois and schooled and graduated from Williamsfield High School with the class of 1961. George entered the United States Army and was stationed in both Germany and was stateside at various posts. While stationed at Ft. Sheridan he was employed at a Chicago Hospital. George owned and operated his own truck and drove over-the-road for forty-six years. After his retirement from trucking he has farmed in the Viola, Illinois area until the present. He is a member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge and joined the Shrine Club where he was active. He also is a member of the Aledo American Legion Post 121 where he was active on the Honor Guard and the military presentations. He is survived by four daughters and two sons, to include Amy (Mike) Johnson of Knoxville, Illinois and George G. (Pam) Mackey of Monmouth, Illinois. His mother survives, Ruth G. Mackey of Monmouth, Illinois and twelve grandchildren. His sister Susan Wade of Wataga, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his Father, Paternal and Maternal Grandparents, and two brothers. Services:A funeral service will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois on Friday January 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm with military honors and burial in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Turnbull Funeral Home on Friday, and a memorial fund is being established for either the Warren County Relay for Life or the Mercer County American Legion Post 121.
