George S. Peters

George S. Peters, age 89, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at his son's residence on Monday December 16, 2024 at 9:00 pm. George was born on May 31, 1935 in Cherokee, Iowa and is the son of Gus and Opal Fouts Peters. He was raised in Cherokee, Iowa where he attended local schools and Cherokee High School. After his schooling, George entered and served in the United States Air Force where he was an "Air Sea Rescuer service between 1953 and 1960. George was previously marred to Nancy Clark and first was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, Iowa. He then worked at J. I. Case Implement manufacturing in Burlington for a number of years. Lastly George work for Dopher Thompson at Oquawka Boats of Oquawka to his retirement. In his younger years George raced cars locally and owned his own car. He loves racing and watching NASCAR. He is survived by his two sons, George Peters, Jr of Oquawka, IL and Timothy Peters in Cape Corral Florida. His step daughter also survives, Gloria Brady and Bill in Cherokee, Iowa. He has seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also surviving. George's sister, Avis survives in Spencer, Iowa and his brother, Gus Peters lives in Aurora, CO. A number of other relatives also survive him. He is preceded in his death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
