George T. Wheeler

George T. Wheeler, age 69, of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Kirkwood; passed away at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL. on June 19, 2013 at 7:05 pm. George was born on August 22, 1944 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of George L. and Naomi N. Harrison Wheeler. He was raised in Kirkwood, Illinois where he attended local schools and the Kirkwood High School. George was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War and attained the rank of E-4. George first married Emmalou J. Kurtz on February 23, 1969 in LaHarpe, Illinois. She preceded him in death. He later married Lana S. Mathis on November 17, 2012 in Macomb, Illinois and she survives. George first was employed at Western Stoneware of Monmouth, Illinois and then worked at Wilson Foods, also in Monmouth, Illinois. He then worked in delivery for Sears in Galesburg, IL also for Ace Hardware in Galesburg, IL. after which he retired. George is survived by his wife, Lana Mathis Wheeler of Macomb, Illinois and one son Steven T. (Teresa) Wheeler of Industry, Illinois. There are two grandsons Gage Thomas and Brandon James Wheeler, both of Quincy, Illinois. His sister in law Nancy Wheeler also survives and resides in Kirkwood, Illinois and three nieces. George is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Gloria Harlow and brother James Wheeler, and one nieces Terri. Services:A graveside service and military honor for George will be on Saturday June 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery of Monmouth. His family plans visitation for an hour prior to the service, receiving friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Memorial Park. A memorial fund is being established for Country View Care Center in Macomb, Illinois.
