Gerald O."Jerry" Woods, age 86 of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away on August 18, 2013 at 7:40 pm at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth. He was born on September 24, 1926 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of William M. and Hallie (Osborn) Woods. He received his elementary education in the Smithshire rural schools and graduated from Kirkwood High School with the class of 1944. Jerry proudly served his country with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1952-1953. He was married to Margaret M. Rohde on November 20, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. After service Jerry began farming and farmed with the Tubbs, Ricketts, and Palmer families in the Kirkwood area for his entire career. He retired in 2006. Jerry is a member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church, the Monmouth Kiwanis Club, and the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion. Jerry was an avid reader with interest in history, politics, and agricultural issues. He is a devoted St.Louis Cardinals Baseball fan since the age of seven. He also has interest in the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his wife Margaret Woods of Monmouth, IL; and daughter Debora (James) Todd of Boone, IA. Two granddaughters Julia (James) Jones of DesMoines, IA and Laura Todd of Cedar Falls, IA. Services:He is preceded in death by his parents and step mother, Mildred. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday Aug. 24, 2013 at the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. His family plans visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am receiving friends for the hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund is being established for the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
