Gerald L. Youngquist, 77, died at his home surrounded by his family on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. Gerald was born August 29, 1930, in Gowrie, Iowa, the son of the late G. Alvin and Ruby (nee Jacobson) Youngquist. On April 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rozella Zenor at Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie. Gerald was a graduate of Gowrie High School, class of 1948, and Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota. He served with the 79th Engineer Construction Battalion in Korea from 1951 to 1953. Gerald attended Augustana Lutheran Seminary, Rock Island, Illinois, and was ordained into the Ministry of the Augustana Lutheran Church in 1962. His first call was to First Lutheran Church, Kirkland, Illinois, from 1962 to 1971. He served First Lutheran Church, Monmouth, Illinois, from 1971 through his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Monmouth Rotary Club, and was honored to be a Paul Harris Fellow, as well as District 6460 Governor in 1999-2000. In retirement he enjoyed restoring his Mustang convertible, traveling with Rose, and observing the accomplishments of his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rose; his children Grant (Prisca) of Racine, Wisconsin; Andrew; and Karl (Mindy) of Monmouth; his five grandchildren, Hannah, Kiersten, Oscar, Kal and Arthur. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Wayne and Infant sister Yvonne; daughter-in-law Elizabeth; and sister-in-law Gerre Services:A visitation will be held at Turnbull Funeral Home, Friday, March 28 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Monmouth, on Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m., the Rev. Keith Killinger officiating. Burial of the ashes will take place in Gowrie, Iowa, in July. In Lieu of flowers, the family has suggested the memorials be given to Monmouth First Lutheran Church, Monmouth Rotary Club, or Strom Center.
