Geraldine F. "Gerry" Spicer, age 83, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at her residence on July 20, 2014 at 9:35 am. Gerri was born on October 23, 1930 in Gilson, Illinois and is the daughter of Harley H and Pauline J. Francis McCoy. She was raised and educated in Warren County where she attended rural schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1948. She then attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven, Mississippi and then Shurttleff College in Alton, Illinois where she attained her teachers certification. Gerri was a teacher in education at Orchard Hill Farm School where she taught from 1970 to 1987. She is a wife and mother to her husband and family throughout her life. She is a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, a member of P E O Chapter E and O G M. She and Lee were very active in WBCCI Wally Byum Caravan Club International. Gerri was an avid Cubs fan, loved the card game of Bridge and was a member of numerous Bridge Clubs. She is survived by her sons, Rodney D. Spicer (Janice) of Kansas City, Missouri and Ray C. Spicer of Monmouth, Illinois. One daughter survives, Julia M. Spicer of Minneapolis, Minnesota. One granddaughter, Carrie and three grandsons, Michael (Melissa) Spicer, Nathan (Amanda) Kumagai, and Philip (Kathleen) Kamagai. There are seven great grandchildren. Her sisters survive, Josephine Menely of Fullerton, CA. Margery Nash of Santa Ana, CA, and one brother, Myron McCoy of Knoxville, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son Alan Lee Spicer. Services:A memorial service is planned at Faith United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 3:00 pm. Fellowship will follow the memorial service at the Church on Saturday in the social hall. A memorial fund is being established for Faith United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth, Illinois.
