Gladys M. Howe, age 102, of Monmouth, Ill., passed away at 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Gladys was born on August 10, 1906, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Willie R. and Irma Whitman Hook. Gladys attended Monmouth Public Schools. She married Albert L. Howe on April 5, 1924, in Galesburg, Ill. He preceded her in death in November 1989. Gladys was a homemaker in her own home. She was a member of First Christian Church since 1919 where she has served as a deaconess. She was a member of the Gleaners Fellowship Sunday School, a member of the Women's Council and a charter member of the Women's Auxiliary at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, Ill. Gladys served for 25 years as a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Gladys was known for making Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls having made over 400. Surviving Gladys are two daughters, Maradine Harrison of Tucson, Arizona, and Erma (Frank) Kellogg of Monmouth, four sons, L Max (Pauline) Howe and James (Judy) Howe both of Monmouth, Willie W. (Marilyn) Howe of Bloomington, Ill., and Loren R. (Nancy) Howe of Kemp, Texas. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Barbara Gardner of LaGuna Hills, California, 25 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Donald L. Howe, one grandson, two great granddaughters, one sister and two brothers. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Gladys' family will be present to receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established for the First Christian Church.
