Dr. Phil Painter, age 73, of Monmouth; passed away at 3:18 pm on Sunday March 20th at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born on October 4, 1937 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Buddy and Anna Louise Holmberg Higgins. Phil was raised and attended school in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School. He then received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University. He completed his masters degree in Zoology at the University of South Dakota and his Doctorate of Chiropractic at the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois. Phil then served an externship at Chicago General Health Services Clinic and instructed microscopic anatomy. Phil served in the United States Marine Corp from 1961 to 1967. He also began Marine flight training in Pensacola Naval air station in Florida. Phil was first married to Carol Lee Hills on April 24, 1971 in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 14, 1998. He later married Carol Thompson Moore on October 17, 2009 in Galesburg, Illinois and she currently survives. Phil began his local career with Dr. Vernon Mannon in Monmouth, Illinois. He opened the Painter Chiropractic Clinic in 1980 and continued it up and unto the present. He is a member and elder of the Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth. He was always active in scouting locally having served as scoutmaster and as the District Advancement Chairman. Phil is also a nineteen gallon blood donor for the Warren County Red Cross Bloodmobile. Phil always loved to go camping, canoeing, and rambling. He loved the Burlington Bees and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He is survived by his wife Carol Painter of Galesburg. Two daughters Melissa (Jeff) Olson of Little York, IL; and Kimberly (Andrew) West of East Moline, IL. Two sons Brett ( Moria) Painter of Wartburg, TN and Greg (Sheena) Painter of Elk Creek, MO; Two Step Children Scott (Amanda) Moore of Springfield, IL. and Kristen (Andy) Weigand of Galesburg, IL Ten Grandchildren are surviving. One brother Jerry (Linda) Painter of Monmouth, IL and one sister Susan (Al) Corsi of The Woodlands, TX. Two half brothers Jeff (Cindy) Higgins of Oneida, IL and Danny (Debbie) Higgins of Dixon, IL Preceding Phil in his death are his parents and first wife. Services:A memorial service will be at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois on Thursday March 24th at 11:00 am. Cremation has been accorded. His family plans to receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service at Faith Church. A memorial fund is being established for Illowa Council of Boy Scouts of America.
