Harlan D. Miller

Harlan D. Miller, age 79, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa on May 9th at 2:35 pm. Harlan was born May 18, 1928 in Stella, Oklahoma the son of Dave and Sarah Heiniger Miller. He was reared and educated in Stella and Oakville , Iowa and graduated from Huron Consolidated School in Oakville in 1946. Harlan married Helen Louise Balzer in 1949. He later married Mary Lou Thompson Gray in Iowa City, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2006. Harlan first was a machinist apprentice for the C.B.Q. Railroad, then worked at J.I. Case Plant in Burlington, Iowa. Harlan also did logging locally and owned and operated a car crushing business in Gladstone, Illinois. For most of his life Harlan also farmed around the area.. He is survived by three daughters Joyce Garnsey and Roger of Monmouth, Illinois, Diane Givens of West Burlington, Sharon Frank and Butch of Burlington, Iowa, three sons, Dale Miller and Lucinda of Burlington, Marvin Miller and Lupe of Phoenix, Arizona, Gary Miller of Mediapolis, Iowa, one step daughter Tina Lazarin and Michael of Buena Park, California, Eleven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruby Eberhardt and Joseph of Sperry, Iowa, Shirley Earnest and Jim of Wapello, Iowa, and Ellen Moehle and Robert of Mediapolis, and two brothers David Miller and Barb of Burlington and Robert Miller and Janice of LaBelle, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister Rose Marie Rydberg and one grandson Nathan Miller. Services:A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. The family will be present to receive friends at Turnbull's on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established to be designated later. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka is in charge of the arrangements.
