Harold W. "Hen" Henshaw

Harold W. "Hen" Henshaw, age 92, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at his Oquawka residence on Tuesday March 9, at 9:10 am. He was born on February 28, 1918 in Sampsel, Missouri and was the son of Doss and Lizzie Simmons Henshaw. He came to Henderson County and was raised in Oquawka and Gladstone, where he attended local schools. He married Velma M. Simpson on November 4, 1939 in Kahoka, Missouri, and she is surviving. "Hen" began work in Oquawka at the button factory. After that he began a sawmill operation in Oquawka which he operated until 1961. After this he began a career in forestry and moved to Big River State Park where he was forester for seventeen years. He last was a forester for eight years in DesMoines County and it's conservation until his retirement . After retirement " Hen " did small engine repairs at his shop also in Oquawka, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, and gathering his family together for a fish fry. Surviving him is his wife Velma Henshaw of Oquawka, Illinois, three daughters Dixie Bigger of Biggsville, Illinois, Joyce Jones of Oquawka, Illinois, and Nancy Henshaw of Oquawka, Illinois. There are three sons Jack L. Henshaw of Oquawka, Illinois, Allen R. Henshaw (Elaine) of Keithsburg, Illinois, and Jay W. Henshaw of Oquawka, Illinois. There are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren surviving. Two sisters also are surviving Delores Olson and Shirley Lox both of Oquawka, Illinois. A number of Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, One daughter, three brothers, one sister, one granddaughter Amber Henshaw, and son-in-laws Dick Bigger and Steve Jones. Services:A graveside service will be at 10:30 am on Friday March 12th at the Oquawka Cemetery. His family will receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, IL on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery.
