Harriet E. "Sue" Stokes, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 3:22 am on March 3, 2012 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Sue was born on August 17, 1924 in Pana, Illinois and is the daughter of William and MaryLou Alice Roland LaDow. She was raised in the Pana Schools and attended Pana High School. She was married to Wesley O. Stokes on September 28, 1941 in St.Charles, Missouri and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2007. Sue was a homemaker and was employed twenty-five years as head cashier for the Kroger Grocery Store in Monmouth, Illinois. She then worked for School District 38 in the lunch roomfor a number of years. She retired at age eighty. Sue was an avid golfer at Gibson Woods golf course. She loved to bowl and bowled in several leagues to include the city league for which she served as secretary. Sue loved arts and crafts and playing cards and her card club. She is survived by one daughter Vickie Pico of Monmouth, Illinois and three sons, Ed (Colleen) Stokes of Monmouth, Don Stokes of Galesburg, and Ron (Sandy) Stokes of Ontario, CA. There are eight grandsons Wes (Sherry) Stokes of Lawrenceburg, IN, Bill Stokes of Cameron, IL, Brian (Nelda) Stokes of Linden, Washington, Don Stokes, Cary Stokes, Dustin Stokes, Jay Stokes all of Monmouth, and Bryce Pico of Tulsa, OK. There are seven great grandchildren. She is preceded death by her parents, husband, and nine brothers and sisters. Services:A memorial service for the comittal of her ashes is planned at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Friday March 9, 2012 at 10:30 am. Cremation has been accorded. No viewing or visitation is planned by the family. In lieu of flowers the family established a memorial fund for Junior golfers at Gibson Woods Golf Course.
