Harriett J. Ashby

Harriett Ashby, age 88, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 5:52 pm on Monday May 13, 2013 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on December 4, 1924 in Rock Island, Illinois and is the daughter of Fred G. and Mildred (Skidmore) Myers. She attended Monmouth High School and graduated in the class of 1942. She was previously married to Eugene Ashby on January 23, 1943 in Missouri. Harriett worked for many years at Monmouth Formfit and then Smolers before retiring in 1977. She provided childcare for several children in her home over the years. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading and playing games with her grandchildren. Harriett looked forward to picnics and outings. Harriett is survived by a son, Larry (Cindy) Ashby of Galesburg, Illinois; two daughters, Terry Cole of Florrissant, Missouri and Patti (Mark) Becker of Cameron, Illinois. Also surviving are five granddaughters; Stephanie Cole, Dara Duke, Christy Brakeville, Megan Downs, and Michelle Reynolds, one grandson; Stephen Ashby, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Doris Mahaffey, and her brother, Clifford Myers. Services:A funeral service is planned for 2:00 pm, Friday, May 17, 2013, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois.
