Harriett G. Jones Stevenson, age 93, of Burlington, Iowa; formerly of Biggsville, IL & Sperry, IA passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Blair House in Burlington, IA. Harriett Genevieve Jackson was born March 10, 1917, the daughter of Edward Burr and Nellie Louise Ellerhoff Jackson in Des Moines County, Iowa. Burr Jackson nicknamed his daughter "Babe" and her sister Mabel was nicknamed "Bill". "Babe" also acquired the second nickname of "Tiny" with both used throughout her life. Harriett, (Babe, Tiny) was a 1935 graduate of Sperry High School. She attended the Burlington School of Nursing graduating in 1938. November 30, 1939 she married Harold Warner Jones at the Jackson Family Farm Home near Sperry, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1956. She married William Kenneth Stevenson on July 27, 1960 at Sperry Methodist Church. Kenneth passed away on May 4, 1981. During her years in Sperry, she was a member of the Sperry Methodist Church, Ladies Aide, Sperry School Community Club, and the Des Moines County Nursing Association. She was also a Sunday school teacher and a 4-H leader. While living in Biggsville, she was a member of the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and a trustee. She was active in the church's Winnie Hockman's Circle and the Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Ladies Home Bureau and the American Legion Auxilliary. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and many other community activities and was always cooking and baking for her family and community members when in need. Survivors include three sons, John (Judith) Jones of Muscatine, IA; Frank (Gloria) Jones of Biggsville, IL; Keith (Brenda) Jones of Hoschton, GA; one daughter Carol Stevenson (Jann) Johnson of Coralville, IA. Seven Grandchildren Joffre (Lisa), Jason, and Jade (Vicki) Jones; Brian and Mark (Shawna) Jones; Jenna Johnson (Eric) Laine, and Jayme Johnson. Nine great grandchildren Kaylee, Kendi and Kyra Jones; Dawson, Marli and Canon Jones; Parker and Safia Jones; and Lillian Johnson. She is also survived by her nephew Ted Fuhrer, niece Sue Fuhrer Shumaker as well as several great nieces and nephews. Services:Visitation will be Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church. A Service of Remembrance will be Thursday, October 28th at 11:00 am at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sperry Methodist Church or the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church. Turnbull Funeral Home in Biggsville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
