Harry E. Tenhaaf, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 5:15 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on January 28, 1925 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of George A. and Lavina F. (Hancock) Tenhaaf. Harry was reared and educated in the Burlington area and attended Burlington High School. Between his junior and senior year in High School, Harry proudly served his Country in World War II. During the war, he was a highly decorated infantryman, serving in the 5th Army, Rainbow Division under General Patton. Harry also served with the Honor Guard for Harry S. Truman. At the conclusion of the war, he served as an MP in Tokyo, Japan. On December 9, 1979 he married Marie Chandler and she is surviving. He was previously married to Edna R. Wayland. Harry was employed from 1950 to September of 1985 with Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer from which he was retired. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Fireman and Engineers. He also worked as a real estate broker in Galesburg and Monmouth. He enjoyed collecting coins. Harry is survived by his wife, Marie, one daughter, Linda Spence of Galesburg, IL, one son, Douglas W. (Vicki) Tenhaaf of Galesburg, IL, two sisters; Helen Weilbrenner and Ruth Wyborney, both of Burlington, IA. There are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren surviving.He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steven Tenhaaf, one brother, George Tenhaaf, and one daughter-in-law, Vicky Tenhaaf. Visitation His family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Funeral Service A funeral service is planned for 10:30 AM on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth, IL. A memorial fund is being established for Rae's West Adult Education School or the Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry, both of Monmouth, IL.
