Hazel I Jones

Hazel I. Jones, age 80, of Oquawka, passed away at 11:28 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. She was born July 5, 1929 in Belle Paine, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph L. and Helen R. Frondle Kent. Hazel was reared and educated in Belle Paine, Iowa. She married Donald "Duck" Jones on June 6, 1948 in Oquawka, Illinois, he preceded her in death on May 1, 1984. Hazel worked as a CNA at the Burlington Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa for several years. She then retired and was a homemaker. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Hazel is survived by two daughters; Connie Shinberger and Terry of Oquawka, Terrie L. Simpson of Belle Plaine, Ia., one son, Howard Jones and Diana, five grandchildren, Todd, Amy, Dena, Travis, and Jim. Ten great grandchildren; Zachary, Taylor, Wesley, Clyde, Caleb, Tyler, Riley, Tori, Maci, and Nathaniel. Also surviving are two sisters, Eunice Houska of Marshall Town, Ia., Carol Hlas and Don of Belle Plaine, Ia., one son-in-law, Leo Hlas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Diane K. Hlas, twin brother Howard Jones, five brothers, and three sisters. Services:A graveside funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. Friends may also call on Saturday at the funeral home until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Monmouth Nursing Home.
