Helen Schreck, age 100, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 6:02 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. Helen was born on May 27, 1907, in rural Smithshire, Illinois, the daughter of James and Mary Lucy Quigley St. Ledger. Helen was reared in Smithshire area attending Chatanooga rural school in Point Pleasant Township, then Immaculate Conception School and High School. She then attended Business College in Burlington, Iowa. Helen married Carl B. Schreck on May 31, 1935 at St. Partircks Catholic Church in Raritan, Illinois. He preceded in death on October 26, 1991. Helen worked first as a secretary at Illinois Bankers Life Insurance Company in Monmouth for ten years. Helen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Raritan and a member of it's Altar and Rosary Society. When they moved to the Greenbush area Helen became a member of the St.Augustine Catholic Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society. While there, she also taught CCD for the parish and was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women serving as Parent Family Chairman for two years. Helen was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and served as it's Secretary for several years. Helen also volunteered at the LaMoine Christian Nursing Home over twenty-five years. After the death of her husband, she moved to Monmouth and is a member of Immaculate Conception Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society, and the Legion of Mary. Helen enjoyed gardening and flowers, and playing bingo and cards. She was a big fan of Notre Dame Football since the Knute Rochne era. Helen loved her family, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and attending their Little League Softball Games. She also liked to Crochet and was an avid reader. Surviving Helen are her two Daughters Mary Ann Liggett of Las Vegas, Nevada and Eileen & Ed Roe of Monmouth, Illinois. Three Sons survive....James & Shirley Schreck of Monmouth, Illinois; John & Janet Schreck of Roseville, Illinois; and William & Freida Schreck of Riverton, Illinois. She has Nineteen Grandchildren, Thirty-Two Great Grandchildren , and Three Great Great Grandchildren. Helen is preceded in her death by her Parents, Husband, her Infant Daughter Mary Therese, Five Sisters...Marie St.Ledger, Anna Trussell, Margaret Heidenreich, Monica Vail, and Rita Brinton, Three Brothers Edmund, Leo, and Infant Philip St.Ledger, and her Son in Law Jerry Liggett Services:Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, on Friday April 4th, at 9:30 am. Interment is to be in St.Patrick's Cemetery in Raritan, Illinois. Her family will recite the Rosary on Thursday evening at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois at 6:30 pm and will receive friends following the Rosary. A memorial fund is being established for either Immaculate Conception Church or Immaculate Conception School.
