Herbert G. Allen

Herbert G. "Herb" Allen, age 89, of Smithshire, Illinois; passed away at 9:15 am on December 28, 2018 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. Herb was born on November 26, 1929 in Smithshire, Illinois and is the son of Earl and Hazel Gibb Allen. He was raised in Smithshire and attended rural school and graduated from the Kirkwood High School with the class of 1947. Herb was in the National Guard in Monmouth and was activated during the Korean War serving honorably in the Army. Herb married Martha A. Brown on October 18, 1953 in Macomb, Illinois and she preceded him in her death on July 10, 2011. Herbert was a lifetime farmer in grain and livestock in Warren county and farmed the family farm his entire career. He is a member of the Illinois Agricultural Association and was an active member and past president of the Warren County Farm Bureau. Herb also is a member and past master of the A. Lincoln Lodge AF & AM in Kirkwood, Illinois and is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Herb is a member of First United Methodist Church here in Monmouth, Illinois. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Ketcham (John) of Rockford, Illinois and Jennifer Hennenfent (Clinton) of Galesburg, Illinois. One son also is surviving, Preston Allen (Glenda) of Smithshire, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also surviving. A funeral service is planned on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. His family plans a visitation and will receive their friends for the hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 to11:00 am. Interment with military honors will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project or the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth.
