Howard L. Hathaway, 72, of Oquawka, passed away on May 9, 2012 in Henderson County, Ill. He was born on February 24, 1940 in Monmouth, Ill., and is the son of Vernon L. and Lucy M. Schultz Hathaway. Howard was reared and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth Schools. He served in the United States Army in Germany and Korea. Howard married Pauline Yarde on December 9, 1965 in Monmouth. He worked for 30 years until his retirement at Maytag in Galesburg, Ill. Howard loved the river and was an avid fishermen and hunter. He enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors. He was know for his cheese bait. Howard also enjoyed cross stitching. He is survived by two sons; Lennie Hathaway of East Galesburg, Ill., Mark Allen Hathaway of Kentucky, five grandsons; Brandon Hathaway (Ashley) of Galesburg, Ill., Zack Hathaway of Kentucky, AJ Hathaway of Monmouth, and Kyle and Tyler of Oquawka, Ill. Four granddaughters; Brittany Hathaway of Galesburg, Ill., Denise Hathaway of Kentucky, Valerie Hathaway of Kentucky, and Shannon Hathaway of Kentucky. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, his significant other Susanna Wheeler of Oquawka, five sisters; Luella Wilson of Monmouth, Verna Toops of Monmouth, Barb Parrish of Jacksonville, Fl., Vicki Rowsy of Burlington, Ia., and Diana Culver of Jacksonville, Fl., and one brother Jimmy Hathaway of Jacksonville, Fl. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Bessie and one brother Merlin. Services:A funeral service with Military Honors will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where his family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund will be designated at a later date.
