Iris R. Hippen, age 93, of Monmouth, passed away at 8:15 p.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Roseville Rehab & Health Care in Roseville, Illinois. She was born on August 6, 1917 in Clayton, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon and Mary Parrick Dunbar. Iris attended the rural Clayton school. She married John E. Hippen on January 5, 1935 in Springfield, Illinois, he preceded her in death on January 23, 1978. Iris first worked as a kitchen cook at Meling's Restaurant in Monmouth, she then worked at Glastex for a time, Iris also worked at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, Ia. She then went back to work at Glastex for a short time and retired in 1977. Iris was a farm wife and homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth, the Red Hatters, ONO Club, and was one of the last surviving members of the Larchland Ladies Aide Society. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards at Strom Center and with her card clubs. Surviving Iris are three sons; Carroll Hippen (Margaret) of Roseville, Ill., Larry Hippen (Diane) of Monmouth, Ill., and Chester Hippen (Terri) of Kirkwood, Ill. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and two sisters Betty Lewis of Monmouth, Ill., and Twila Morgan of Milan, Ill. Her niece Chris Moore (Jeff) of Monmouth, also is surviving. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, one son Wendell, three brothers and four sisters. Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. Her family will be present at Turnbull Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established for the Strom Center in Monmouth or the First Christian Church in Monmouth.
