J. Donald Brannan, 89, of Monmouth, passed away at 2:37 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth. He was born on November 28, 1918 in Monmouth. He is the son of John and Katherine Gleason Brannan. Don was reared and educated in Monmouth, and attended Monmouth Public Schools. Following his graduation from Monmouth High School, Don began studies at Monmouth College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in June of 1940. Don served his country during World War II, as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. He married Lonetta I. Fernald on October 4, 1969, in Monmouth. Don began his career in Banking with Delavan Hardin at the Second National Bank in Monmouth. He then went to work at the National Bank in Monmouth, until his retirement. Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, where he served as an Officer and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Monmouth, and the J.W. Clendenin V.F.W. Post 2301. Don was also a member and served as Treasurer for the Lake Warren Board. He also enjoyed bowling. Survivors include his wife Lonetta I. Brannan of Monmouth, one step son; Gary Fernald and Sherry of Monmouth, two stepdaughters; Marilyn Brewer and Richard of Montford, Wisconsin, and Patricia McKelvie and Mark of Salem, Oregon. Also surviving is one niece; Barbara Brannan of Geneseo, Illinois, eight step grandchildren, and twelve step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Claire Brannan Services:A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call on Thursday, December 27, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where his family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund is being established for the Extended Care Unit of OSF Holy Family Medical Center or to the Knights of Columbus. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements
