James C. Brasche, 81, of Gerlaw, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2007, at the Monmouth Nursing Home, in Monmouth, Illinois. He was born on April 24, 1926 in Taylor Ridge, Illinois. James was reared and educated in the Taylor Ridge area. He attended Taylor Ridge Schools. James served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He married Donna L Stevens on April 22, 1950 in Monmouth, Illinois. She preceded him on April 5, 1999. Jim worked in the Gambles-Skogmo warehouse for thirty-four years until the warehouse closed. He then worked at Mariah Foods in Monmouth. When not at his regular job, Jim also worked at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, where he dug graves for twenty five years for Bernadine Bowman. He also dug graves for many of the rural cemeteries in the area. Jim was also a member of the Gerlaw Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Alexis American Legion. Survivors include two daughters; Suzanne Brasche and Dennis Endicott of Hannah City, Illinois, Kathy Armstrong and Larry of Monmouth, Illinois. One son; William James Brasche and Laurie of Colona, Illinois. Three grandchildren; Michael Armstrong and Dawn of Vail, Arizona, Heather Armstrong of Monmouth, and Allison Brasche of Colona. Also surviving is one great grandson, Cameron James Armstrong, one brother; John Brasche of Colorado, three sisters; Ruth Nuckles of Monmouth, Barbara Ray of Galesburg, Illinois and Joan Hogan of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, and one sister. Services:A graveside committal of ashes with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established for the Gerlaw Christian Church. Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
