James T. Lydic, age 90, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth. Jim was born on January 5,1918, in Monmouth. the son of Jesse and Viola Bingham Lydic. He was reared in rural Monmouth and Cameron area attending Muddy Corners School. Jim was a member of the 123rd Field Artillery of the National Guard that was activated to serve in the Philippines during World War II. Jim married Shirley J. Reimolds on April 23, 1948, in Monmouth. She preceded him death on August 29, 2000. Jim began farming with the Simpsons on the family farm near Alexis. He also drove a truck for his brothers; Russell and Jess Lydic for a number of years. Jim was then employed at Admiral/Maytag manufacturing for 30 years, until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing 4 point pitch, and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Jim also enjoyed spending time at Strom Center in Monmouth. He was known by all as "The Candyman" giving out hard candies to everyone. Jim is survived by one daughter Sheryl Gardner (Jim) and one son Tom Lydic both of Monmouth, four grandchildren Shawna Lydic of Alexis, Illinois, Zackary Lydic of Monmouth, Jeff Gardner (Rosemary) of Galesburg and Julie Lung (Steve) of Sanford, North Carolina and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers Jess Lydic (Betty) of Avon, Illinois, Russell Lydic (Argyle) of Monmouth and Lowell Lydic (Nancy) of Kansas and one sister Harriett Rusk of Galesburg and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Services:A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Turnbulls. A memorial fund has been established for Strom Center in Monmouth.
