James "Ollie" Murphy, age 89, of Monmouth, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012, at his residence. He was born on September 9, 1922 in Monmouth and is the son of Fred B. and Minnie N. Anderson Murphy. Ollie was reared and educated in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School. He served in the United States Army Air Corp. Ollie married Hazel "Tidsy" Walther on December 20, 1946 in Monmouth, she survives. Ollie first worked at the Pottery in Monmouth, he then moved houses with his uncle and brother. He later worked for Carl Murphy Construction, and finally at Gunther Construction in Galesburg, Ill. After retiring, Ollie had a stained glass window shop in Monmouth. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and most of all spending time with his family and dogs. Ollie is survived by his wife Hazel of Monmouth, two daughters; Diana Walker (Dan) of Albia, Ia., Denise Pullen (Gary) of Monmouth, grandchildren; Ian Walker (Tina) of Eddieville, Ia., Rachel Walker-Corpus (Ed) of Albia, Ia., Catrina Pullen of Monmouth, Drew Pullen of Monmouth, and Whitney Pullen of Monmouth. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, and one sister Harriett Patterson of Little York, Ill.. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, and three sisters. Services:A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. Friends may call an hour prior to the service at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where his family will be present to receive friends. A memorial fund has been established for the Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
