James M. "Scotty" Scott, age 76, of Gerlaw, Illinois; passed away at 5:00 am December 31, 2013 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. "Scotty" was born on March 7, 1937 in Warren County and is the son of Harry Melvin and Beatrice Louise Thompson Scott. He was raised in Warren County and attended Monmouth High School. He received his General Education Degree. He married Rose Johnson on March 24, 1955, and later was married to Connie E. Geer on May 6, 2000 in Abingdon, Illinois. She is surviving. Scotty first did plastering for Jim Austin in this area prior to entering the United States Air Force here in Monmouth, Illinois. He achieved the rank of Airman First Class. After his discharge he was employed at "The Bus Barn" Cavanaugh's in Monmouth for a time and then was a driver for the next twenty-five years for various transportation companies in the area. Jim was also a member of the Teamster's Union. He also worked for Gates Rubber Company for a time. Scotty was a member of the J. W. Clendenin Post 2301 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion. He attended Countryside Bible Church in rural Gerlaw. He is survived by his wife, Connie Scott of Gerlaw, Illinois and one son, Jamie Scott of Martinsville, Indiana, and one daughter, Victoria Scott of Galesburg, Illinois. One grandson, Tulsa Talley of Galesburg, Illinois survives. Two sisters, Karen (Frank) Anderson of Roseville, Illinois and Debby (John) Denekas of Dyersville, Iowa. and his brother, Michael (Debbie) Scott of Roseville, Illinois also survive. His sister in law, Kathy Scott of Gladstone, IL. survives and brother in law Stanley Bridge of Lincoln, IL also is surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Marilyn Bridge and Janet Waller, and a brother Lowell Scott. Services:A celebration of Scotty's Life is planned on Saturday afternoon at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Pastor Ken Muck will close the time with a service at 3:00 pm followed by a military presentation of the colors. Cremation will then be accorded and interment of ashes is not planned at this time. A memorial fund is being established for the Warren County Relay for Life.
