James L. Sells

Jimmie L. Sells, age 83, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 2:00 am on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Aledo Health Care Center in Aledo, Illinois. Jim was born on October 24, 1934 in Alton, Illinois and is the son of Lawrence M. and Gertrude B. Arnold Sells. He was raised and educated in the Kirkwood area. Jim married Melva L. Pullen on September 18, 1953 in Oquawka, Illinois and she preceded him in death on February 27, 1981. Jim was a painter and carpenter and was self employed doing such in the area and in Missouri. Jim enjoy helping his brother-in-law Jessie L. Pullen on the township roads and working on Jessie's sprint car. He loved to fish and talk on his C.B. radio. He loved to go to the races at 34 Raceway in Burlington and enjoyed repairing cars and vehicles. Jimmie loved going to the Oquawka Diner and visiting with his friends. He is survived by his daughters, Shelley (KC) Carlson of Monmouth, Illinois and Brenda (George) Olson of Oquawka, Illinois. His son, Richard Sells also is surviving and lives in Oquawka, Illinois. There are eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents, wife, one daughter, Diana L. Johnson, brother-in-law, Jessie L. Pullen, two brothers; Richard W. Sells and Robert L. Sells, and his nephew, Rick L. Pullen. Memorial Service A memorial service is planned at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois on Saturday, January 6th at 11:00 am and will be conducted by Pastor Mark Baker. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial fund is being established by his family.
