Jane E. Smith, 95, of Monmouth, died 10:02pm, Wednesday February 14th at Cranes View Lodge, Clermont, FL. She was born June 24, 1922 in Ottumwa, IA, the daughter of Seth Walter Morgan and Vera Celestia (Hovey) Morgan. She married Roger G. Smith of Monmouth (Gerlaw) on May 30, 1942 in St. Louis Mo. Surviving is her Son, Timothy (Sherry) Smith of Groveland, FL and daughter Michelynn (Curtis) McKnight of Norman, OK. Four grandchildren, Stewart (Jenny) Smith of Ashburn, VA, Dr. Andrew (Katherine) Smith of Tampa, FL, Alexis (Scott) Duffin of Hagerstown, MD and Bradley Smith of Ashburn, VA and five great grandchildren Nolan Roger Smith (Stewart), Sonya Marie Smith, Hannah King (Andrew), Jack Edward Duffin, Nora Lynn Duffin (Alexis). Also surviving are her nephews John Morgan, James Morgan and niece LeAnn Morgan of Galesburg. She was proceeded in death by her parents and husband of nearly 60 years Roger G. Smith. She moved to Monmouth as a toddler where she was reared and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School and attended Monmouth College. She was a dedicated early childhood educator, operating the Jane Smith Pre-School for 43 years from her home at 303 North First Street. Married in St. Louis, Mo during World War II she followed her husband's duty assignments as he served in the US Army Air Corps (1942-1946). Jane was a participant in the creation of the Warren Achievement School. She was an active and longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star and other local civic organizations. She played flute with the Monmouth Municipal Band for more than 50 years and at times played alongside her daughter and son in the organization. After retiring from teaching she was known for her craft and sewing skills including frequently making and giving hand sewn quilts to others. She was a member of the Church of Christ supporting congregations in Monmouth, Galesburg, Elmwood, Abingdon and most recently Clermont, FL. Visitation Her family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Funeral Service A graveside service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth, Illinois. A memorial fund is being established for Cornerstone Hospice Foundation,2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778.
