Jane Fairchild Walker, 87, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024. She was born on June 1, 1936 to Edward Cary Williams and Ruth Fairchild Whiteside in Cambridge, MA. She attended Wellesley High School and then studied Nursing at Skidmore College, obtaining her Registered Nursing Degree in 1958. She started her nursing career in the United States Army where she met her husband Frank Stuart Walker of Monmouth, Illinois. After getting married, they returned to Monmouth where Stuart set up his dental practice and Jane found her calling teaching nursing at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. Jane had various interests including Book Club, PEO, investment Club, Bridge groups, music and especially weaving and textiles. She was very involved in both Trinity and Grace Anglican Churches, attending regularly and serving in different capacities. She also enjoyed playing both tennis and golf. Jane is survived by her two children, Margaret Gillespie (Chuck) of Fishers, Indiana and Edward "Ned" Walker (Errin) of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, her brother, Edward Williams (Betsy) of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and granddaughter Emma Gillespie of Fishers, Indiana. She is preceded in her death by her parents and husband Stuart in 2010. A public visitation is planned on Friday June 21, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment of her ashes will be done by her family earlier in the day at Reynolds Cemetery in Reynolds, Illinois. A memorial fund is designated in her memory to Buchanan Art Center in Monmouth, Illinois.
