Johanna J. Shipp

Johanna Jean (Lewis) Shipp, 51, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Joie was born on December 13, 1964 in Mendota to Robert L. Lewis and Bonnie Jean (Wheetley) Lewis of Mendota. She married Rodney E. Shipp on November 1, 1987. Joie is survived by her husband and four children: Kasey J. Shipp of Chicago, Cody J. Shipp of Dubuque, IA, Braidy R. Shipp, and Emily M. (Erin) Dwyer of Fayetteville, NC. Survivors also include Sandra Murdock, Melanie Lewis and Wallace Rod, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Joie graduated from Mendota High School in 1983. She then attended Illinois Valley Community College for two years, where she met her husband of over 30 years. She worked in her family business, Chukkers, followed by several years at St. Patrick Grade School in LaSalle, many years at IV Cellular on Route 6 in Peru, and a brief time before her illness at Hy-Vee in Peru. Joie's life, interests, and hobbies were her family, and her greatest joys were her children. She spent her life supporting them in all their interests, especially their sports teams. She followed them through every season, through winter snows and summer heat, always cheering in the stands for them and their friends, sharing their wins and losses with fellow families at St. Pat's, Holy Family, and St. Bede Academy. Memorial Service A memorial gathering will be held at the Abbey Church of St. Bede on Friday, August 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, August 6, interment of ashes and graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Oquawka, Illinois. Please gather at Turnbull Funeral Home between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
