John R. Aker Profile Photo

John Roger Aker, age 65, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at his residence in Monmouth. He was born on July 23, 1952 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Clarence E. and Juanita R. (Cann) Aker. John was a graduate of Media Weaver High School in Media, Illinois. He worked at the I.A.A.P. in Middletown, Iowa for 31 years. John Roger Aker was Roger to his family and John to his co-workers and friends. He spent a lifetime with a love for his family, friends, sports, and collecting. Roger was proud to be the 4th generation owner of a family homestead that dates back to the late 1800's. He was also the family historian who could recount many stories about the family--old and new. Later in life, he took up fishing with a group of buddies, although it became clear it was more about the enjoyment of the camaraderie and not so much the fishing. He followed Illinois High School football but his pride and joy was the sports endeavors of his great-nieces softball and his great-nephews football and baseball. His greatest passion was studying and enjoying the collection of antiques. Sometimes it turned into a victory and sometimes it was the one that got away. Either way, he has provided lasting memories and keepsakes of a lifetime for his family. Roger is survived by one sister, Linda Greenman of Raritan, IL, one brother, Charles Aker of Foley, AL, nieces Tracy Benge of Raritan, IL. Heather Blyman of Hicksville, NY, nephew John Benge of Stronghurst, IL, two great-nieces; Madison Benge and Macy Benge, and two great-nephews; Charles Blyman and John Connor Blyman. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service As were Roger's wishes, cremation is being accorded. A private family interment will be held at a later date. A memorial fund is being established for Diabetes Research.
