John C. Anderson

John Charles Anderson, 88, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 6:03 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, Illinois.

John was born October 13, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Paul W. and Sally C. (Andersen) Anderson. Following high school, John served in the US Army from July 24, 1956 until he was honorably discharged on July 23, 1959. He then went on to a 40 plus year career with Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1999.

John married Frances A. (Kondrat) Callaway on May 16, 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. They enjoyed over 42 years of marriage prior to her passing on September 1, 2023.

John is survived by his two daughters, Kathy (Brendan) Doyle of Englewood, Colorado and Barbara Callaway of Wood Dale, Illinois; two sons, Robert Callaway of Stevenson, Washington and Richard (Twymenia) Callaway of Westchester, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Along with his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Anderson and a sister, Dorothy Anderson.

As a Chicago native, John was a die-hard Bears and Cubs fan.

Chapel services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 at St. Casimir’s Lithuanian Roman Catholic Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, Illinois. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the veteran’s organization of the donor’s choosing.
