John N. Holland

John N. Holland, age 59, of Monmouth, Ill., passed away at 3:00 am on Thursday, February 26, 2009, in Galesburg, Illinois. John was born on November 12, 1949, in Monmouth and is the son of John M. and Juanita Neal Holland. John was raised in Galesburg and Monmouth, where he attended local schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1968. After high school he served in the National Guard, Battery C 123rd Field Artillery. John married Patrice A. Helm on November 29, 1972 in Galesburg. He was first employed at Wilson Foods in Monmouth for a time and then at Exide Corporation in Burlington, Iowa. John has been custodial supervisor at Carl Sandburg College since 2002. John enjoyed golf, baseball and all sports. He loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed Friday morning breakfasts with his friends. John is survived by his wife Patrice A. Holland of Monmouth, two daughters, Kim Timerman and Greg of East Peoria, Ill., and Julie Tinder and Jeff of Springfield, Ill., three granddaughters, Kelsey Tinder, Hannah Tinder and Hattie Timerman and one sister Jean Theobald and Gary of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services:Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. John's family will be present to receive friends for the hour prior, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m on Sunday at Turnbull's. A memorial fund is being established for either Hemophilia or St.Judes Children's Hospitals.
