John K. 'Kenneth' Hurka

John K. "Kenneth" Hurka, age 81, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away at 5:50 A.M. on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Aledo Health Care Center in Aledo, Illinois. He was born on February 10, 1936 in Biggsville, Illinois, the son of George H. and Verna C. (Davis) Hurka. Kenneth attended schools in Biggsville. On February 21, 1954, John married Betty Delores Spangler and she preceded him in death on June 6, 1993. Kenneth worked for the Media Grade School as a janitor, Radier's Pre-Cast, the Rock Quarry in Raritan, Champion Spark Plug, as a security guard for General Electric, and he farmed. He enjoyed playing pool and visiting with his many friends. John is survived by one daughter, Wanda (David) Coppes of Yarmouth, IA, two sons; LeRoy (Kim) Hurka of Gladstone, IL, and William Hurka, of Biggsville, IL, one sister, Neva Jean Davis of Oolpewah, TN, grandchildren; Kaci Bowling, Kelly Merideth, Brandon Hurka, Michael Hurka, step-grandson Derek Coppes, great-grandchildren; Johnathan Hurka, Alex and Austin Merideth, Kaden Parker, Kaylinn Bowling, and step great-grandchildren Gwen and Jayde Coppes. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Betty, and one infant brother. Visitation Kenneth's family will be present to receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the funeral home. Funeral Service A funeral service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment will be at the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial is being established for the Alzheimer's Research.
