John A. Mullhatten, age 89, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at Monmouth Nursing Home on Sunday March 25, at 2:54 am. John was born on September 26, 1922 in Shelbina, Missouri and is the son of Lewis J. and Mable G. Wiegand Mullhatten. He was raised in Hancock County where he attended Huntsville rural school and graduated from the Augusta High School. John was drafted into the Air Force during World War II and served as a payroll clerk. He was previously married to Eleanor E. McKee. John first was self employed having a dairy delivery route in the Augusta, Bowen, and Plymouth area. He then was a construction worked for the Laborer's Union 538 in Galesburg, Illinois. Lastly, he was employed as a custodian for School District 38 at Monmouth High School and Garfield School in Monmouth; until his retirement in 1987. John bought, sold, traded, and restored various automobiles, and enjoyed tinkering with cars. Surviving is one daughter Ruth Mullhatten in Wichita, Kansas, and two sons Lee Mullhatten of Quincy, IL and Charles Mullhatten of Monmouth, IL. There are six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren surviving. There is one sister Mabel Freeman in Canton, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters and brothers. Services:A memorial service is planned at 2:00 pm on Saturday April 14, 2012 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation has been accorded. No visitation or interment is currently planned.
