John Melvin Scott, age 72, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, May 10, 2009, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Melvin was born on August 20, 1936 in Monmouth. He is the son of John and Anna Mary Conard Scott. He was reared and Educated in Warren County and attended Monmouth, Alexis, and Kirkwood schools. Melvin graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1955. He married Janice Keener on July 1, 1956 in Krikwood, Illinois at the Kirkwood United Methodist Church, she survives. Melvin farmed all his life. After his retirement he worked for a time at Gibson Woods Golf Course as a mower. Melvin enjoyed collecting farm implement toys, playing cards, traveling, country music, and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church, Kirkwood Village Board, Youngs Lake Board of Directors, and he was also a Boy Scout leader. Surviving Melvin are two sons; Michael Scott and Diana of Virginia Beach, Va., and Steven Scott of Wood River, Illinois. One daughter, Kathy Amundson and Paul of Hudson, Ill., seven grandchildren; Wendy Scott of Chesapeake, Va., Erin Scott-Walton and Andrew of Virginia Beach, Va., Rachel Amundson of Hudson, Ill., John Amundson of Hudson, Ill., Amy Larson and Zach of Ankeny, Ia., Rebecca Scott of Orion, Ill., and Sarah Scott of Monmouth. Also surviving is one brother, Robert Scott and Sharron of Biggsville, Ill., one sister, Mary Kay McIntosh of Monmouth, and numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents. Services:A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation has been accorded, interment will be in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood. Friends may call on Friday at 2:00 p.m. till the time of service at 3:00 p.m., where his family will be present to receive friends. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Kirkwood United Methodist Church, Kirkwood Senior Citizens, or the Warren County Relay for Life.
