Jon W. Dawdy, age 77, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday July 19, 2014 at 1:43 pm. Jon was born on November 2, 1936 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the son of Delwyn Haas and Kathryn Alfreda Knable Dawdy. He was raised and educated in the Avon and Greenbush areas and graduated from Greenbush High School. Jon drove a truck for a living and began driving for Gambles Skogmo for twenty years. He then drove for ten years for Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg, Illinois and then lastly drove for Johnson Trucking in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Jon enjoyed and was active in his work with "Toys for Tots" for many years. He has been and is currently a member of the Appeals Board in Henderson County. He earlier was a member of the Galesburg Eagles Aerie. Prior to his death, Jon was active in woodcrafts; and he enjoyed visiting, jokes, and trucking stories. He is survived by his companion, Evelyn Dawdy of Oquawka, Illinois, his sisters, Shirley Green of Galesburg, IL; Jeanne (Al) Livingston of Oquawka, IL; Jill (Ray) Hawkins of Galesburg, IL; Joey (Ron) Wolfe of Oquawka, IL; Susie Dawdy of Topeka, Kansas and two brothers, David (Marlene) Dawdy of Topeka, Kansas; and Richard (Berti) Dawdy of Bushnell, IL. There are also a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents. Services:A funeral service will be on Saturday July 26, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. His family plans visitation at the funeral home on Saturday receiving friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 prior to his funeral service. A memorial fund is being established for the Oquawka Ambulance Service.
