Joy R. Gardner, age 98, of Monmouth, passed away at 3:35 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009, at The Legacy Estates in Monmouth. She was born on January 12, 1911 in Stockport, Iowa. Joy is the daughter of H. Jay and Etta Veatch Morris. She was reared and educated in Stockport and graduated from Stockport High School in 1929. Joy married Stanley Gardner on January 12, 1934 in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1966. Joy was employed for a time at the Universal Producing Company in Fairfield, Iowa, and later at Pattons True Value Hardware in Monmouth for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, where she was involved in the Marco Sunday School class, and the Priscilla Circle. Joy was also a very active member of the PTA, Cub Scouts, and Girls Scouts in earlier years. Surviving Joy are two sons; Ronald Gardner and Rhoda of Chehalis, Washington, James Gardner and Sheryl of Monmouth, one daughter, Janet Chard and Richard of Galesburg, Illinois. Four grandsons; Brian Chard and Lina of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Jeff Gardner and Rosemary of Galesburg, David Chard and Jenny of Cape Coral, Florida, Matt Gardner and Suzy of Seattle, Washington. Two granddaughters; Julie Lung and Steve of Sanford, North Carolina, and Becky Chard and Heidi of Iowa City, Iowa. Step granddaughter, Fallon Bohnas of Chehalis, Washington, and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband. Services:A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Her ashes will intered in Spencer Cemetery in Stockport, Iowa following the service. A memorial fund has been established for the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth.
