Julia R. "Judy" Smith

Julia R. "Judy" Smith, age 99, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 1:25 P.M. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. She was born on October 25, 1918 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of William O. and Dora Bell (Warnich) Thompson. Julia attended Quincy High School and the Quincy Beauty College. On May 24, 1942, she married Kenneth E. Smith in Oquawka and he preceded her in death in 2006. Julia worked many years as a beautician. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Quincy. She later attended the Oquawka United Methodist Church in Oquawka, Illinois for over sixty years, where she enjoyed working with the children. Julia was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Julia is survived by one daughter, Cheryl L. Bielser of Oquawka, IL, one son, Douglas E. Smith of Burlington, IA, five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Numerous step great and great, great, grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Danny, one sister, and four brothers. A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Her family plans to receive friends for the hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial is being established for the Schlotzhauer Home in Oquawka, Illinois or the Oquawka United Methodist Church.
