Julia E. Schreiber, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at St. Joseph Hospital while at her winter home in Tucson, Arizona on December 29, 2007. Julia was born on July 29, 1920 in Hamlet, North Carolina and was the daughter of Asa C. and Cora Williamson Edwards. She graduated from Tabor City, North Carolina High School and then received her teacher's certificate from East Carolina Teacher College in Greenville, North Carolina. Julia married Carl Joseph Schreiber on May 15, 1944 in Granite City, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1978. During World War II Julia first worked for the Army Air Corp in Washington, D.C. She then came to Monmouth and was employed at Illinois Banker Life Insurance for a number of years. Julia then taught school at the Little York Elementary School for 21 years until her retirement. During that time she also was employed at Bowman Colwell Department Store in Monmouth. Julia was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the National Educational Association, the Rose Hawthorne Book Club, numerous Bridge Clubs, and volunteered at the Hospital Auxillaries in both Monmouth and Tucson, Arizona. Julia enjoyed between bridge games, sitting in the sun, reading books, and spending endless time with her children, and grandchildren discussing the activities of the other kids. Surviving are four daughters ; Julia Allaman and husband Davi d of Grafton, Virginia; Sue Fechter and husband William of Seymour, Indiana; Nancy Carder and husband Chuck of Charleston, South Carolina and Mary Dooley and husband Ron of Bloomington, Indiana. Two sons; John C. Schreiber and wife Janis of Macomb, IL and James E. Schreiber and wife Kenda of East Lansing, Michigan . Her grandchildren ; Christin Jones (husband Patrick) ; Caryn Treder (husband Danny) ; Kayla Smith (husband Mike) ; Brant Fechter; Robert Carder; Greg Carder (wife Joy); Jonna Schreiber, Julie Schreiber; Austin Schreiber; Louise Schreiber; and Stuart Schreiber. Her Great Grandchildren ; Brandon Allaman; Brian Allaman; Ashley Bush ; Cameron Jones; Savannah Smith; and Ellie Treder. Preceding Julia in her death are her parents, her Husband Carl, a granddaughter Carla Allaman, one sister Susie (Graham) Mahala and one brother Aca C Edwards II. Services:Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 5, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St.Mary's Cemetery also in Monmouth, IL. Her family plans to recite the Rosary on Friday evening at 6:30 pm and will receive friends following the Rosary at Turnbull Funeral Home of Monmouth, IL. A memorial fund is being established for Immaculate Conception School of Monmouth, IL where her 6 children attended. Memorials maybe sent to, 115 North B Street, Monmouth, Illinois 61462
