Kathryn M. Bates

Kathryn M. Bates, age 71, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 2:05 pm on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the Emergency Room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Kathryn was born on January 23, 1945 in Galesburg, Illinois and is the daughter of Frank and Helen Jean Spencer McCutcheon Epps. Kathryn was raised in Galesburg and Monmouth where she attended Harding School and later Monmouth High School. She received her General Education Degree later in her life. Kathryn was married to Victor M. Bates and he is deceased. Kathryn began work in production at Western Stoneware of Monmouth, IL and later worked a number of years at Felt Industries on the line. Lastly, and while she was in California, she worked privately as a Certified Nurses Assistant until her retirement and her return to this area. Kathryn was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monmouth and more recently has joined St. James A.M.E. Church. She loved yard sales and most loved to cook. She is survived by her three sons, Lance McCutcheon and Shane (Leticia) McCutcheon, and Shiloh (Brandy) Bates, all of Monmouth, IL. There are sixteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three great, great, grandchildren surviving. Her sister survives, Francis Burris of Monmouth, IL and two brothers, Frank (Kathy) McCutcheon, Jr. and Charles E. McCutcheon, both in Denver, Colorado. She is preceded in her death by her parents, husband, and one daughter, Rita. Visitation Her family plans a visitation from 9:30 am to 11:00 AM prior to the service at Turnbull Funeral Home on Friday. Funeral Service A funeral service for Kathryn is planned on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Cremation is planned following the funeral service. A memorial fund is being established for St. James AME Church of Monmouth, IL.
